5 Shades of Summer

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

The Uk summer is still struggling to break through the cloudy and rainy days that are too common here, but nevertheless it will be here soon. So lets get our lips ready for that sunshine. I shopped my stash to find five of my favourite shades for the sunny months. Your lip colour can really change a makeup look from looking average to summery. So here's what I'll be taking on my travels and wearing whilst the weathers hot.

YSL Rouge Volupté Lipstick (Corail Jalouse)

This, as the name suggests, coral shade is brilliant as a day time shade. Its creamy and easy to reapply quickly throughout the day if need be in the warm weather. I use this if I want an easy, but beautiful option.

Mac Viva Glam Nicki (Satin) /Maybelline Colour Sensational Shine Gloss (Pink Shock)
I love the Mac bright pink shade. Its matte and very pigmented, I've paired it with the Maybelline gloss to bump up the colour and add shine. This is one of my favourite combinations. The Nicki Viva Glam isn't available anymore but you could use Mac Chatterbox as a similar shade.

NYX Butter Gloss (Apple Strudel)
I'm always picking this over other shades in my collection. Its a lipgloss that is not sticky at all and wears off nicely. The image is showing it to be more pink thank in real life. Its more of a coral shade. Its very easy to apply, a great lazy option.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick               (Bachelorette)
This ones a bit of a darker shade. I love wearing this on holiday with a light coloured outfit, leaving this as the staple piece of my look. Its matte and in my opinion relatively drying, but I still love it. I always apply after a good amount of lip balm. If its hot this will stay on all day.

Mac Giambattista Valli Lipstick (Matte Margherita) / Maybelline Colour Sensational Shine Gloss (Electric Orange)
The Giambattista lipsticks was a collection I was dying to try around this time last year. Unless you want to spend your time on eBay finding this, a great alternative would be Mac Saigon Summer, sorry! It screams summer and with the Maybelline gloss over the top its a great way to top off a summer look.

Have fun picking your lip shade this summer and let me know of any of your warm weather staples.

Thanks for reading! :)

NYX Available In Boots Now!

If your in the UK and are a makeup fanatic, the news that NYX was coming to Boots would have been very exciting. I know it was for me. NYX is a drugstore brand and up until recently not available over here in stores. It recently launched in my local Boots so I had to go see and spend some time rummaging through the full range. As far as I know the prices are slightly more expensive than the states but I suppose that can be expected.

Butter Gloss- Cherry Pie
I have a few of the butter glosses already and love them. I bought the red shade as I don't have many sheer reds in my collection, maybe ill be brave enough to wear this in the day time. They're not sticky and apply nicely, I'll definitely be buying more shades.

Matte Lipstick- Audrey
I picked this one up as I loved the shade, I'm hoping for it to be my everyday go to. If I'm honest I had chosen it based on the shade and didn't even realise it was a matte finish. It was the first thing I've tried and loved that it was pigmented. Although it did leave a line on my lips so I'll have to keep an eye on that.

Jumbo Eye Pencil- Milk
This was raved about by all the bloggers a few years ago, now I can see why. I've been using this as a base to create a blank canvas for eye shadow. I'm loving it. I have been previously using a Mac paint pot as a base but I'm switching to this straight away.

HD Concealer- Fair
I have relied on the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer for so long now I needed a change and I'm so happy I tried this one. I have quite a lot of blemishes so I wanted to have something that was good enough coverage to cover them, the HD Concealer does just that. It's creamy and long lasting. Sorry Collection concealer you've been replaced.

Sex Bomb Eyeshadow Palette
I bought this because of the pinky shade on the end. Normally I always pick the palette with the neutral brown shades but I thought I would change that. I wasn't overly pleased about the silver glittery shade, it wasn't very pigmented and didn't last overly well. I'm going to have to preserver with the other shades.

It was a successful shopping trip, I will 100% be stopping at the NYX counter again.

Thanks for reading! :)

Half Bad Trilogy (Sally Green) Review

I'm in love with reading and love a trilogy. I can feel genuinely upset when I've read a good book, fallen in love with the characters and there isn't another book to follow the story. I had read reviews around this and had put it on my wish lists of books to read. No spoilers, don't worry!

The story is set in the modern day where there are two kind of witches, black and white. Sally Green, a debut author, writes about a 'Half Code' Nathan. His mother (white witch) passed away years before the story is set and his father (black witch) is the most powerful, feared black witch ever known. The novel follows the story of Nathan and his struggle through the community of witches who live among the regular humans (fains).

I found the first book quite hard to get into. Some parts of the story I found hard to grasp where it was in the timeline. It took me a while to get into the story and fully engage with Nathan. In my opinion this really set the scene for the next two and allowed the reader to get to know Nathan and his back story. Having said that by the end of the first book I instantly added the next two onto my wish list.

The next two I read simultaneously and couldn't put down. I won't say which characters I fell in love with, I find that the most annoying spoiler, when people slip up and tell you which characters are in the next part of the story. The last two books are set it a very short time frame, I thought that was interesting as you literally get to follow every part of the story, nothing is skipped over.

Without spoiling anything, I was happy with the ending Sally had written. I think it tied in with the story well and was a realistic end to the trilogy. Its no surprise this book achieved a guiness world record in being the 'Most Translated Book by a Debut Author, Pre-publication'.  I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys teen fiction, as its been compared to The Hunger Games and Harry Potter, if you enjoyed those I would definitely give this a try.

If you have any recommendations for me, please let me know.

American Beauty Haul

Hi everyone,

I recently came back from a trip to New York where I spent far too much money on makeup. Im going to show you exactly what I purchased and my thoughts on the products I've tried so far. I could spend all day in Sephora even if I'm just browsing, I tried not to go too crazy so only got a few bits from there. Its a mixture of drugstore and high end products as I  like to use a bit of both, theres always a good bargain in the drugstore.

Eyes

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
This was my favourite purchase of the haul. The chocolate smell is just dreamy, I find myself smelling it for far too long before actually using it. All the shades are really usable and blend easily. My most used colours so far are semi-sweet, Champagne truffle and Milk Chocolate. I hadn't used anything from Too Faced before but am now dying to try more of their products.

NYC City Proof 24hr Waterproof Eyeshadow
I dropped this the minute I bought it and the product went all over the lid, the OCD part of me cried for a while. I wasn't overly happy with this, I've tried it once as a base and it started to separate as the day went on. I'm yet to try it with different shadows and in different ways so I'll keep you posted if it redeems itself.

Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel
I've only ever tried blushes from Milani before, so was excited to try some of they're other products. I haven't tried it yet, hopefully its keeps my brows in place.

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara/ ClumpCrusher LashBlast Mascara
I had purchased both of these whilst I was in America last year and was dying to get my hands on them again. I prefer the LashBlast Volume, it separates lashes and keeps them curled all day, whilst giving them great volume. The ClumpCrusher is also great and keeping lashes curled, just doesn't give as much volume for me.

WetnWild Coloricon Eyeshadow (Spiked/Groupie)
I was quite disappointed with this product. I used Spiked (the silver shade) on a recent night out and found it to be quite grainy, it didn't cover the eyelid seamlessly and left parts without any glitter at all. I had also used a glitter eyeliner to help it stick. Ill persevere and see if its any different with a different base but it doesn't seem promising.

Face

WetnWild Coverall Correcting Palette
I'm still trying this, so far I've used the green shade the most to cover blemishes that are particularly red. I've used products like this before and really loved them. It seems to do the job and I like how its compact and useful for travel.

L'Oréal True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator
At first I wasn't sure how to use this but stupidly hadn't read it says Blush and Highlight. I've been using this as a highlight and I really like it. Its a very fine powder and has small glitter particles. The blend of the different colours gives a nice sheen on the cheekbones. It would also look really nice in the inner corner of the eyes.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter
I had this on my shopping list the whole time I was planning my trip. I've heard a lot about this, lots of beauty bloggers had been talking about the shade moonstone but I thought that Pearl (a whiter shade) was more up my street. After swatching in Sephora I went with Moonstone, I just felt Pearl was a bit too white, and I'm really happy with it. Its a bit stronger than the L'Oréal one but both are lovely.

Lips

NYC Cityproof Intense Lip Colour (Canal st Coral/Riverside Rose)
These chubby stick style lip sticks are my favourite type of lip product. They're easy to apply quickly and are generally hydrating. These are no exception, the orange shade (Canal st Coral) doesn't come out as pigmented as it looks but it still a nice shade. The darker shade (Riverside Rose) I bought because I find these shades harder to wear. If its easy to apply I'm more likely to wear it. It looks darker in the picture but in real life its a dark plummy colour.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lovesick)
I've got one other of these in the shade Bachelorette so I wanted to try a more wearable colour. They are drying, most liquid lipsticks are, but if you apply after using a lip balm I don't have that much of a problem. The Lovesick shade is really nice and wearable for the day time but would also make a nice lip with a smoky eye.

EOS Lip balm (Blueberry Acaí/Blackberry Nectar/Coconut Milk/ Mint)
haven't always been a fan of these in the past, after having to purchase one during my trip I've fallen in love again. So much so I bought four flavours. They're convenient and I prefer using them over other lip balms in pots to avoid all those germs building up.

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturising Lip Gloss (Taupe with Me/Tickled Pink)
As far as I'm aware these are a new product in the Maybelline baby lips range. They're not very pigmented at all but do go nicely as a nude lip option in the Taupe with Me shade or I have been using Tickled Pink, either on its own or over another lip shade. This over the Kat Von D liquid lipstick would add more moisture if your struggle with the dry lips.

If there's anything specific from this haul you would like me to chat about please let me know.

Hello

This is one of my favourite recent pictures, so I wanted to share this as my first blog post and as an introduction to me. My name is Emily, a 20 year old lover of all things cute. I'm a makeup fanatic, reader, rookie traveller and hopeless at sticking to one thing for longer than 10 minutes but I'm going to try my hardest at this blog! In this picture I'm clearly loving life meeting goofy at Disney World Florida, the most amazing place.

Im in love with all things beauty, if you are too we will definitely get along. I'm looking forward to sharing all the best bits I've found and maybe the bad ones too, to save you all a bit of money. Ive been dreaming of this blog for a long time and I really want it to contain a bit of everything, beauty, hairstyles, fashion (although not my strong point), travel and random life style things.

I really hope you enjoy reading this as much as I'm looking forward to sharing things with you.

Enjoy!
